Safety Guidelines
Binder Community Limited · No. 17058768
1. Who these guidelines are for
Binder is for adults aged 18 and over in the United Kingdom. These guidelines explain the tools that help keep you safe and the simple steps that make meeting people in person go well. Please read them alongside our Community Guidelines, Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
2. Meeting people in person
• Meet somewhere public the first few times.
• Tell a friend where you're going, who you're meeting and when you expect to be back, or share your live location with someone you trust.
• Arrange your own way there and back, so you can leave whenever you like.
• Keep your home address, financial details and other personal information to yourself until you know someone well.
• Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, leave — you don't owe anyone an explanation.
• Look after your drink and know your limits.
3. Going to a community event
• Check who's organising the event and what the community is about.
• Tell someone you trust where you're going and when you expect to be back.
• Arrive and leave on your own terms, so you're never relying on someone you've just met to get home.
4. Your plans, your choices
Binder helps you find people and plans; the plans themselves are yours. You decide who you meet, where and when. Binder is for adults only, and getting to know someone new still calls for the same good judgement you'd use anywhere.
5. Your location
Location is optional and is only used when you choose to share it. When you post a Signal or an event, the exact meeting point is shared only with the people going and, for a community event, the community's organisers; everyone else sees a general area. You can switch location off at any time in your settings or your device's permissions.
6. Reporting and blocking
You can report a person, a Signal, a plan, a message or a community from inside the app, and every report is reviewed by a member of our team. You can also block anyone. Once you do, they can't contact you, see your profile or join your plans.
7. Keeping content safe
Images are checked when they're uploaded and are not shown to other members until they have cleared, and text is checked as it's posted. We act quickly on anything illegal, and we report child sexual abuse material to the police or other appropriate authorities.
Sharing, or threatening to share, intimate images of someone without their consent is never allowed on Binder. If it happens to you, don't pay and don't send anything more. Report it to us as set out below, and to the police.
To report an intimate image of you, or of someone you are acting for, email cameron@bindercommunity.app with "Intimate image report" in the subject. Tell us where the image is on Binder, that it is an intimate image of you or of the person you are acting for, shared without consent, that your report is made in good faith and is true to the best of your knowledge and belief, and how we can contact you. We take the image down, along with any copies we find, as soon as we reasonably can and within 48 hours of receiving your report, unless we consider that it is not an intimate image shared without consent or that the report does not come from the person shown or someone acting for them.
8. If you need urgent help
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 (or 112). For confidential support at any time, call the Samaritans free on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258. If you have experienced sexual violence, Rape Crisis and your local NHS Sexual Assault Referral Centre can help. These services are independent and free.
9. Contacting our safety team
Report in the app, or email our safety team at cameron@bindercommunity.app. For concerns about children, see our Child Safety Standards.
10. Changes
We update these guidelines as Binder grows, and we'll tell you about any significant change. The date below shows when they were last updated.
